One of my New Year’s style resolutions (yes, that is a thing) is to add more color to my primarily black/gray/navy wardrobe, so I’m kicking things off with an infusion of emerald green.
Green has always been one of my favorite colors, so this was a no-brainer. And there’s just something about a super-saturated, nearly-neon (but NOT neon) hue that I’m wild about…it just kind of glows. (This Raquel Allegra tie-dye dress is one of my all-time favorites).
A bold, green plaid coat pairs best with neutrals (cue existing wardrobe essentials). Black is an easy go-to, but I think navy is a fresher alternative, so I opted for these Club Monaco high-waist culottes. (for more on how to wear culottes, click on the A&S tip icon at the bottom of the post)
Since the coat is oversized and the culottes are wide-leg, I wanted to show a little skin for shape, so I kept the ankles bare and slipped into custom Stuart Weitzman denim stilettos. I kept the accessories simple with my signature cat-eye sunglasses (at $98, I feel slightly less guilty about losing them every few months), double-sided pearl and stud earrings (for subtle edge) and a single 14-karat gold K (for a preppy twist).
I didn’t love my hair down with the coat, so I did a last-minute side ponytail, and added red lipstick (with blue undertones) for a complementary and contrasting pop of color.
